USDZAR : Looking Bullish breaks key levels

2016-05-10_11-31-00

USDZAR, Daily

The USD has had a positive start to May appreciating (in some cases significantly) against its major trading partners in Europe and Asia. It is up against all the seven majors EUR, JPY, GBP CHF, CAD, AUD and NZD.  Our Traders Board feature shows this very well and allows you to monitor the relative strength of the majors in real time and for the last five trading days. The image below shows the performance of the USD over the last five days. It’s a feature that is well worth making part of your trading day.

2016-05-10_11-05-17

The two percent plus move against the Asian currencies is also reflected in the emerging market currencies too. One pair that caught my eye today was the South African Rand (USDZAR).

Trading the exotic pairs brings some additional risks and rewards. The lower liquidity and higher spreads means that trades should be carefully constructed and evaluated before executing. As we always emphasize your trading capital is your most important asset and you should always trade with strict risk management rules.  “Trade what you see not what you think”, apply your rules consistently and you can be successful regardless of the asset or time frame you choose to trade.

The USDZAR broke some key levels yesterday and looks to be in a bullish up move:

  • Last week it rallied to the 23.6 Fib level and the psychological round number at 15.0000.
  • It finally closed above 15.0000 yesterday having reached the level in the three previous trading sessions but was unable to breach the level. So we have had a fairly typical, reach, breach and broken pattern.
  •  Yesterday’s close (15.1650) was also at a key level, which had previously been support, during February and March, and had turned to resistance for April. A close today over this level indicates strength for this pair.

I will be looking for Target 1 area around 15.3800 – 15.5000 and Target 2 around 16.0000  – 16.3000.

Always trade with strict risk management. Your capital is the single most important aspect of your trading business.

Gold Analysis for 04.27.2016

Chart_16-04-27_12-05-49

Gold, 240 min

I wrote three days ago that I’m looking for sell signals in gold at or inside my sell area near 38.2% and 50% Fibonacci levels between $1244 and $1254 with Target 1 at: $1227 – $1238. Market rallied to $1243.80 the next day and missed my entry level by 20c before turning lower and dropping to my target one. Now gold has moved inside my Sell Area again, but the bearish technical picture has deteriorated. Here’s a quick recap on what was discussed on gold in yesterday’s webinar.

I pointed out in the Live Analysis Webinar that we now have a support near the sell area. Also, yesterday price created a higher low in the 4h chart at $1232.70. The high from 25th is now a penetrated resistance turned into a potential support. This has given the price of gold technical support and helped it to creep higher and create higher lows in the hourly chart. Price could still turn from these levels but the probabilities are much lower and as a rule we are interested in low probability events. In yesterday’s webinar I said that I don’t like the idea of shorting near support and therefore could consider gold shorts near 0.50 Fibonacci retracement level at $1250.30.

Now we’ve seen price moving almost to $1250 but ideally I would’ve liked to see price moving to this level as a result of volatility caused by the FOMC statement. As a rule it makes sense to wait for the FOMC statement’s wording and market reactions to it before taking trades. As always we should trade the market accordingly and find new entry levels based on the principles taught in the webinars. The nearest 4h support and resistance levels are at $1243.80 and $1254 which coincides with the 0.618 Fibonacci level.

Free Forex Analysis for 01.08.2016

Free Forex Signals for 01.08.2016

Today’s Currency Movers Report

The start of trading for 2016 was all about the flight of money flowing out of global stock markets and into “safe haven positions”. As equity investors from Beijing to New York dumped stocks, causing the worst start of a New Year ever in recorded history, the Japanese Yen (JPY) took the spotlight as the safe bet with the JPY, the only major currency to report broad-based gains across all of the major currencies over the last five trading sessions.

On the other side, the biggest loser across the board over the last 5 trading sessions was the AUD. The Aussie has been spooked by China’s slowdown, the recent devaluation of the yuan which will negatively affect Australian exports and falling commodity prices are all factors that give reason for traders to move out of the AUD.

Jan 8 EURAUD V1

EURAUD, Daily

Australian Trade Balance came in lower than expected as the commodities downturn continues to take hold on the AUD. Meanwhile, short term strength in the EUR from the Euro area manufacturing PMI which recorded the third consecutive monthly rise has boasted the EUR.

Technically, the EURAUD looks set to extend a recovery from the December lows (1.4350), since price appears to be creating lower lows (B1 – B2) and higher highs (T1- T2?), the fact that price has broken to the upside of the valid downward sloping trend line, MA analysis is mixed, however, prices are above both the long and short term averages and the Stochastic analysis remains bullish.

I therefore support long positions for a short term price target near the 1.5810 level.

Jan AUDUSD SRL

Jan 8 USDJPY V1

USDJPY, Daily

The USDJPY is now broken under the longer-term (Monthly) September 2012 – December 2015 uptrend-line. Safe haven flights of capital are supporting the JPY in at least the short term. As the trend remains held to the downside for an eventually retest of the December 2014 lows near the 115.55 area, traders should be on alert for a potential short-lived move higher before new short positions are opened.

My strategy for the USDJPY is to open new short positions upon signs of buying interest below the 119.70 areas for a mid-term price target near the 115.60’s.
